How to Make Money Online: Create Your Personal Brand

Whether you are a freelancer, blogger, webmaster, web merchant, mechanical turker, or some other aspiring web worker, you must demonstrate your value to the internet and the people who use it. It's all about eyeballs and getting users to view your content or use your products or services. To accomplish this, you must create your niche, or in other words, your own personal brand that is unique to you and offers something to users that others don't. Doing this is a complex undertaking.

Setting yourself apart is crucial for creating a unique and desirable brand. Doing this involves much more than just creating your logo or a flashy website. It's about carving out your niche and making it obvious why your approach is different and more beneficial than the next guy, or gal. It's important to remember that you cannot just build it and they will come. You must build something better for people to leave what they are currently using to use your website.

On that note, if what you're doing online doesn't create net benefits to your target user, they simply won't come back and will not use your service and you won't be very successful. I know what I'm saying here is a bit vague so let me get more specific.

To start building your personal brand you want to research your direct competition extensively. First, determine how much competition there is. Is your niche already too saturated? Are there opportunities to offer something different, or better than your competion? Determine what needs similar content or sites are serving. Are they doing it well? Are they under serving the community and if so, how? Find the under served areas of your niche and serve them!

If you're a freelancer this means offering services not offered by your competition or better customer service. If you're a blogger this means exploiting the weak areas of information in your chosen topic and creating a brand. For instance, if you're writing about cats, how is your topic different and honestly ask yourself or an impartial third party if you or they would visit your website and more importantly, come back again and again? If you say no, stop. Rethink, reorganize, redo what you were doing. This retooling of your approach to find what draws visitors back is necessary because repeat users are the key to a successful web business. If you need an example of a company that does this well look no further than Facebook.

Above all, be honest with yourself, don't let your pride get in the way! Believe me, I've done this far too many times and it never works out. If what you're doing isn't working, change, because the key to creating your personal brand is having the humility to admit when you're wrong and change when you need to.

Best of luck to all of you and here's hoping your future online income is great and your difficulties are small.

Thanks for reading!

~Justin

How to Become a Blog Master in 5 Easy Steps

If you're a blogger you probably want to get more readers. Who doesn't want to be an blog master right? It is a dream of many bloggers to sit on their couch and make thousands of dollars every month doing what they love but how does one get there? How do they go from being a blog hobbyist to a blog master?

1. Start small. You must learn the trade before you can earn as a master. It's no different then picking up a hammer and learning how to nail boards together. You must learn what works and what doesn't your own way often through trial and error. Start following successful bloggers and read back when they were just starting on their very first posts. What worked for them? What ideas did they abandon. What did they refine? How did their content evolve? How are they making money blogging? Study the fine intricacies of blog masters and see why they made the decisions they did.

2. Don't copy. You can learn about what they do but absolutely do not copy it. This goes for the content on other blogs but also the techniques. The niche of information and the technique they deliver it that they carved out did not come easy. If you copy the design of their blog, the content, or the search terms you will always fail. The search engines do not like duplicate content and if you copy you will be seen only as that. You simply cannot become an income generating blog master unless you're truly original.

3. Be Passionate. Blogging about topics your passionate about is very important. If you don't you'll lose interest and run out of things to talk about. The balance between what you know a great deal about and what you like to write about is the key. It also must be presented in a different way than anything else out there. If you aren't original in your delivery your content, however good it may be, will get lost in the search engines never to be found again.

4. Take risks! Challenge yourself and push your mind further than you ever thought it could go. It's when you reach mental no man's land that you discover some of the most brilliant blog topics to write about that will be an absolute hit with your readers. Daring blog masters that take great risks usually make a lot of money and experience great rewards. Even if they don't they usually learn a great deal for next time.

5. Be genuine. The difference between a TV news program, a newspaper, a magazine, and a great blog is that all of these mediums are impersonal, except that is for the blog. The modern blog is a very dynamic personal piece of literature. The writer tailors the information in such a way to draw the reader in and connect with them on a personal level. When the blog master does this they create trust. Trust is the missing ingredient that separates the amateur from the professional blog master that makes money doing what they love!

More Important to Be a Blogger Than a Logger?

How are bloggers more crucial than loggers? Wait, forget the term loggers. Fill in the blank any other manual labor driven career. The reason simply is because information has become more important than industry. Yes, loggers and the lumber they harvest is important to our society. Indeed we would have a difficult time building houses without them. However, the effective delivery and filtering of information has become increasingly more important as our society becomes more and more inundated with higher volumes of mental information overload.

Have you ever felt this overload overtake you? If you say no, think back to when you last watched television news for a long period of time. After a certain amount of time your brain becomes so inundated with negative sensationalist news stories that your become desensitized and start to think more negatively about the world. What you're missing is perspective. Perspective on news stories allows you to think for yourself. When you think more deeply about stories you see between the lines and you can see the positive in the world. Blogs offer a positive alternative to the news and traditional sources of information that leave you feeling unsatisfied.

Bloggers and the blogs they write today come in all shapes and sizes. There is the blog hobbyist that writes a post or two every so often when they are feeling in the mood. Then there's the blogger of intermediate skill that has been at it for a year or two and has several blogs that they update regularly. Lastly, there's the blog mogul. These bloggers are pioneers in their own right. They have cornered the market on their brand, their source of unique perspective and information that keeps readers coming back for more.

Blogs have evolved from primitive websites with primitive bloggers rambling about obscure topics to well designed websites with large volumes of highly cited and trusted content. There are some blogs that are so effective that when you're there you forget that they are blogs. That is the true test of a great blog.

When you don't realize it's a blog, what's happening is the blogger has sold you on the information they have provided. Part of being a blogger is being a salesperson. You must convince the reader that your are not nameless faceless internet person rambling about meaningless things they don't care about. Your reader must care about what you are writing or they won't read it, simple as that. With all that said, if you execute it properly, blogging can be an incredibly rewarding pursuit and can touch limitless lives far beyond your keyboard.

Blogs can change lives. Blogs start social movements and social change. Blogs provide sound medical device. Blogs can help you become a better parent. Blogs are ever-evolving. Blogging can be a simple hobby or a lifelong passion. Whatever it becomes for you remember you're not just a blogger, you're a writer. You're a unique writer that has the ability to transform someone's life, and do it again and again. That's what makes being a blogger different. Blogging gives a voice to the voiceless and that's why it has become more important in our society than a logger.
